Before the late 20th Century with advances in communication technology, digital recording and high speed internet, the quality of instrumental sound, and ways of playing instruments had much more national individuality. This relative isolation, for several hundred years, allowed for a greater variety in sound and methods of playing between nations creating "National" sounds.
